Lendore, Selvon and Collingwood strike gold

Olympic 4x400 relay bronze medallist Deon Lendore opened his 2013 season with a victory, helping his Texas A&M team to victory in the men’s 4x400m at the Texas A&M 12 Team Invitational on Saturday.

The host team crossed the line in 3:06.25, with Lendore running the second leg. Houston was second (3:09.83) and Baylor third (3:11.77). At the 2012 London Olympics Lendore anchored T&T’s mile relay team to bronze in a national record of 2:59.40 seconds.

Kai Selvon and Robert Collingwood were also in winners’ row.

Selvon (Auburn) sped to gold in the women’s 60m finals at the Crimson Tide Indoor Opener in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday in 7.44. In the the heats Selvon was the quickest in 7.52.

The Olympic 200m semifinalist improved on her second place finish from last year when she clocked 7.38 to finish behind Semoy Hackett (7.36). Selvon was also part of Auburn’s 4x400m team which finished 13th in 3:56.63.

Collingwood was denied in the men’s shot put, taking second with a distance of 17.49. The Southern Mississippi student was also 11th in the weight throw (16.23). At the BSC Panthers Indoor Ice Breaker at the same venue earlier in the month, Collingwood was victorious in the shot put, winning with a distance of 17.05 with his twin brother Richard in third in 16.74.

In the weight throw Richard was also seventh (16.20)

Jamol James (Tennessee) was runner-up in the men’s 60m finals (6.75) at the Kentucky Invitational while Jessica James (Iowa Central CC) bagged bronze in the women’s 600m (1:36.05) at the Holiday Inn Invitational.

James was also part of Iowa’s winning 4x400m team (3:51.72).
