Olympic 4x400m relay bronze medallist Deon Lendore was named the Division One men’s Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Lendore received the honour after clocking a world leading time of 45.91 seconds in the men’s 400m at the Texas A&M Triangular Meet at College, Texas, on January 19.

Running on his home track, the Texas A&M second-year student improved his previous indoor personal best of 46.33 and also bettered the meet record of 46.03. The clocking was also one of fastest times ever recorded in the month of January. Lendore returned to anchor his team to victory in the men’s 4x400m in 3:07.74.

The Athlete of the Week honour was the second for Lendore in his career at Texas. In April 2012, he was selected as the Big 12 Conference "Athlete of the Week" following his win in the one-lap event at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational in 45.56, and anchored his mile-relay team to victory in 3:06.44 (45.2 split).

Lendore is studying Business Management at Texas A&M and attended Queen’s Royal College. The 20-year-old is also a member of the Abilene Wildcats Athletic Club and is a three-time Pan American Junior and four-time Carifta medallist.

Two other T&T athletes won similar awards in January. Thrower Emmanuel Stewart (Morgan State) and high jumper Deandra Daniel (Coppin State) were named the top male and female field athletes, respectively, in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference.
