Gordon targeting 400m best at British meet

Trinidad Guardian :: 15.02.2013

TT's double Olympic bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon will run in the men's 400m at the British Athletics Grand Prix at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England, later today. Gordon will return to England for the first time since his historic medal performance at the London Olympics Games last August.

The 24-year-old will contest his first 400m event for the 2013 indoor season and will face Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic, who was second at the London Olympics ahead of Gordon. The British duo of Nigel Levine and Richard Strachan, American Calvin Smith and Rabah Yousif of Sudan complete the six-man field.

The New York-based quarter miler was third in the men's 400m in 44.52 at the London Olympics and also was part of the T&T men's 4x400m team, which also copped bronze in a national record of 2:59.40. Speaking since his arrival in England, Gordon said he was targeting his indoor personal best of 46.43 achieved in New York, USA, in 2012.

The lanky runner has the fastest time in the world this year over 200m, clocking 20.60 seconds at the Terrier Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, in January
