Gordon says season opener slow

Double Olympic bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon was second in his first 400m race for 2013 when he clocked 46.73 at the British Athletics Grand Prix at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England on Saturday.

The lanky quarter miler was aiming to improve on his one year old personal best of 46.43 but was 0.3 seconds off. Gordon said he felt he did not achieve his goal as he stumbled at the start of the race.”It was a slow opener. I had a problem at the beginning of the race. I stumbled a few times but I am still surprised I ran that time because almost for the whole race I was in the back. I made my move at the last 150m."

With his 46.73, Gordon is ranked 20th on the World Indoor 400m standings. His fellow Olympic 4x400m bronze medal team mate Deon Lendore is at number one with 45.91. Team mates Jarrin Solomon is at 6th (46.32) and Ade Alleyne-Forte 30th (46.88).

Gordon is happy with the performances of his compatriots and is hoping all will run well in the outdoor season.”That’s good to see the guys running fast times indoors. When (the) outdoor (season) comes they all should be running 45 low or sub 45. I have a good feeling we would medal at Moscow."

The 24-year-old was speaking from Stockholm, Sweden where he is scheduled to run in his second and final 400m for he 2013 indoor season at the XL Galan Meet on Thursday.
