Boldon hosts online sports programme

Newsday :: 22.02.2013

QUADRUPLE Olympic medallist, Trinidad and Tobago’s Ato Boldon began his stint as an online sport programme host yesterday, as the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) launched their first episode of “Inside Athletics”.

This new, unique format of educating track and field enthusiasts across the globe will be broadcasted on the IAAF World Athletics Club Facebook Page. This is just one example of the new initiatives implemented by the IAAF via social media for 2013.

Boldon, who is an IAAF Athlete Ambassador, will host the athlete-oriented programme which has been designed to focus on several sporting issues. IAAF “Inside Athletics” is goal-bound to give an insight into what elite athletes experience during competition, so that fans will be able to get a hands-on experience on what it is like in the call room before events.

It also aims to educate the sporting world on how athletes manage stress, deal with the media and doping controls, and how they find ways to relax on tour.

The first episode was aired online yesterday. Each weekly episode will focus on a different theme, ranging from analysing current World records – such as Usain Bolt’s 100m record, Aries Merritt’s 110m Hurdles record or David Rudisha’s 800m record – to seeing who might challenge the more dominant athletes in the sport, like Anna Chicherova and Ivan Ukhov.

Fans will be able to interact and ask questions, either on Facebook or by email to insideathletics@iaaf.org.

Boldon has a distinguished international career which spanned more than a decade. The former national sprinter bagged four Olympic medals and four medals at the IAAF World Championships, including gold in the 200m in 1997. He is now a respected television broadcast analyst for CBS and NBC.
