Mc Leish takes Cross Country

Trinidad Guardian :: 02.06.2013

Nikosi Mc Leish got the better of Simon Kalechstein to win his fifth cross-country title last Sunday at the Sevilla Golf Course, Couva, in the last event of the Carifin Games. Mc Leish finished in a time of 28:44, while Kalechstein came second, stopping the clock at 29:06. Kalechstein, an RBC employee, had the lead, but could not hold off his fellow RBC colleague. Mc Leish, who did not participate in the cross country for the past two years because of an injury, took the lead and never looked back. Both runners were pleased after the race, Mc Leish said, “Father, I thank you for the ability to run and be victorious again.”

Kalechstein was satisfied with RBC’s performance, stating, “The course at Sevilla was in great condition, and it was great to have all the crowd support, cheering on the number one and number two finish by RBC!” Wendy D’Arbasie of Central Bank continued her dominance in the female category, winning her second cross-country title in a time of 26:39. “I set my mind to improve on my performance from last year and hoped it would be good enough to capture the coveted title again,” D’arbasie said. Catherine Stewart of Bank of Jamaica placed second in 30:20, while Central Bank’s Narissa Lezama grabbed third spot in 30:58.

In the male walk, First Citizens’ Deodath Harrikissoon won his fourth walking event of the games in a time of 20:07. Second and third place went to Barry Mitchell of Central Bank and Terrance Worrel of Republic Bank, respectively. Mitchell finished in 20:31, while Worrel stopped the clock at 20:40. In the female walk, Ornella Knights of Central Bank came out on top, followed by RBC’s Cherylin Cadogan and Mellicia Valdez of Republic Bank.
