Trinidad Express :: 07.06.2013

Trinidad and Tobago’s Wayne Davis II will challenge for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Outdoor Track and Field Championship men’s 110 metres hurdles title, in Oregon, USA, today.

Davis finished first in the first of three qualifying heats, late on Thursday, the Texas A&M University student getting to the line in a wind-assisted 13.25 seconds.

Davis has been drawn in lane four for the final.

Kai Selvon will be on show in today’s women’s 200m championship race. On Thursday, the Auburn University senior clocked a wind-aided 22.80 seconds to finish third in heat two, advancing to the final as a “fastest loser”.

Selvon will do battle out in lane eight.

Deon Lendore will be in action for Texas A&M in today’s men’s 4x400m final. In Thursday’s preliminary round, he anchored his team to victory in heat three in three minutes, 02.38 seconds.

And in the women’s 4x400m qualifying round, Sparkle McKnight ran the second leg for University of Arkansas. She helped her team to top spot in heat three in 3:30.45, Arkansas advancing automatically to today’s final.

Shermund Allsop is also expected to be on show today. He is likely to be part of the Louisiana State University (LSU) team that will bid for honours in the men’s 4x100m final.

Late yesterday, Lendore faced the starter in the men’s 400m championship race, and McKnight competed in the women’s 400m hurdles final.
