Horsford, Colthrust for National Juvenile C’ship

Newsday :: 15.06.2013

TYRIQ Horsord, Adel Colthrust and Aquilla St Louis are set to continue their dominance as they vie for titles at the 2012 National Juvenile Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain today and tomorrow.

Horsford (Zenith/Signal Hill Secondary) was the standout performer at the Secondary School Championships in March capturing four gold medals (boys under-14 100 and long jump and boys under-15 100m hurdles and javelin) and leading Tobago to its 21st straight national zonal title. The 2012 CUT gold medallist will be seeking to match his quadruple Secondary Games feat after he missed out at last year’s Juvenile Champs. In 2012 the 13-year-old won the boys under-13 javelin and high jump and was second in the long jump and 100m.

Horsford has been having a phenomenal season capturing the CAC age group trials and Falcons Games boys under-15 Heptathlon titles. He is among a 49-member contingent from Tobago. Zenith clubmates Franklyn Stanisclaus, Anya Akili and Safiya John are expected to feature.

Stanisclaus was second to Horsford at the CAC Group trials while John topped the girls under-13 Pentathlon crown with Akili taking second in the girls under-15 Heptathlon ahead of another Zenith athlete Shaquana Scott. All four are expected to be named in the national contingent for the CAC Age Group Championships in Curacao from June 29 to 30.

Colthrust of Southern Athletics will be seeking to extend his three-year unbeaten run at the juvenile Champs.
