Colthrust powers to victory in NAAA 100m

Southern Athletics sprinter, Adell Colthrust, powered to a golden finish in the Boys Under-15 100m finals on day one of the National Association of Athletics Administration Juvenile Championships, which sped off at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

The budding athlete produced a speedy time of 11.06 seconds to win the event, followed closely behind by eventual silver medallist Toco Titans’ Tyrell Edwards (11.59s) and bronze receiver D’Abadie’s Daniel Hernandez. Rounding off the top five finishers were Zenith’s Ako Hislop (11.85s) and Rebirth’s Joshua Mc Millan (11.88s) respectively.

Colthrust was favoured to win this event since he qualified with the fastest time of 11.79s in Heat Three. Ironically, every other athlete held on to their qualifier positions in the final. In the preliminary stages, the second to fifth fastest advancing times were as follows; Edwards (11.44s), Hernandez (11.71s), Hislop (11.73s), Mc Millan (11.75s),

In the women’s equivalent, Neon Trackers’ Jenea Spinks raced to gold in a blistering time of 12.32s. After advancing to the finals with the fastest qualifying time (12.44s), Spinks defeated Zenith silver medallist Ayla Stanisclaus (12.77s) and Memphis Pioneers’ bronze medallist Shania Mc Carter (12.86s).

However, Memphis Pioneers would take control of the hotly contested Girls’ Under-15 4x100m, copping gold in 51.35s. Their victorious team comprised of of Ketara Morton, Zoe Montrose, Mc Carter and Gabriella Serville. Following closely behind was D’Abadie (52.36s) and Zenith (52.52s) respectively.

The Boys 4x100m crown was taken by Zenith club members Hislop, Tyreke Gordon, Franklyn Stanisclaus and Tyriq Horsford. They clocked 46.85s. Bagging silver was Cougars in 47.85s while Memphis Pioneers settled for third in 48.86s.

Golden relay runner, Tyriq Horsford then doubled up when he threw a golden distance of 49.77 metres to win the Boys’ Under-15 javelin event. Horsford’s distance was achieved on his second attempt, after previously throwing 48.52m in his first and 48.05m in his third try. However, he proved significantly better than eventual silver medallist Usamah Muhammed (Cougars), who threw the spear 37.90m. Claiming the bronze medal was Toco Tafac’s Kiel Mc Neil, with his distance of 32.60m.

Additionally, the Boys’ Under-13 high jump was taken by D’Abadie’s Avindale Smith (1.45m) while Zenith’s Justin Guy (1.40m) and Kegal Chance (1.40m) took the silver and bronze medal positions respectively.

In the girls equivalent, Memphis Pioneers’ Rae Anne Serville leapt to victory with 1.35m. Taking home silver was Shannon Daniel (Tobago Falcons) with 1.35m and bronze was claimed by Okellia Williams (Toco Titans) with 1.35m.
