Colthrust, Spinks grab sprint double

Adell Colthrust (Southern Athletics) and Jenea Spinks (Neon Trackers) secured the golden sprint-double when they powered to victory in the Boys and Girls Under-15 200 metre race respectively, as the curtains fell on the NAAA Juvenile Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

Having already bagged the gold medal in the 100m event on Saturday, Colthrust affirmed his dominance of the juvenile sprint circuit when he sped to the finish line in 22.73 seconds. The Southern Athletics member outran eventual D’Abadie silver medallist Daniel Hernandez (23.50s) and Zenith bronze receiver Ako Hislop (24.27s). Rounding off the top five finishers were Neon Trackers’ Rondell Vance (24.36s) and Simplex’s Jason Walcott (24.37s) respectively.

Similarly, Spinks showed class and bagged her second gold of the annual meet when she blasted to victory in the girls equivalent. The Neon Trackers sprinter clocked 25.27s, emerging the winner ahead of D’Abadie’s runner-up Aquilla St Louis (26.0s) and Zenith’s third-placed Ayla Stanisclaus. Finishing in fourth and fifth respectively were Point Fortin New Jets’ Akeera Esdelle (26.49s) and Zenith’s Shaquana Scott (26.55s).

Meanwhile, the Cougars team of Blossom Swift, Joanna Rogers, Shirley Stapleton and Kershel Mc Intyre copped gold in the Girls Under-15 1000m sprint medley. The victorious quartet clocked 2:24.29. Taking the silver medal spot was the Neon Trackers team in 2:25.79 while D’Abadie Progressive placed third in 2:26.39.

Cougars then doubled up on wins as their team of Jarion Osouna, Deron Frank, Jonah Gordon and Jaden St Louis also bagged gold in the boys equivalent. They clocked a golden time of 2:12.27, defeating runners-up Zenith (2:13.50) and Neon Trackers (2:15.95).

Additionally, Morvant Jets field athlete Akief Ansolia threw the spear 27.95m to grab gold in the Boys Under-13 javelin. Ansolia’s winning distance was recorded on his second attempt. He defeated Toco Titan’s Shervone Antoine (26.73m) and club-mate Esan Babb (26.35m) respectively. In the girls equivalent, St Mary’s Home athlete Crystal Gibbs launched her spear to a golden distance of 24.29m. Gibbs’ throw surpassed all other opposition as Tobago Jaguars’ silver medallist Anika Busby recorded a distant 16.57m while Point Fortin New Jets’ Ashanti Alexis took bronze with 15.49m.

In the Boys Under-11 150m dash, Point Fortin New Jets youngster Devin Auguste took top honours with his golden time of 19.42s. Memphis Pioneers sprinters snatched the next three finishes with Shakeen Mc Kay (20.03s), Dominic John (20.12s) and Jamali Mynch (20.18s), while Simplex’s Elijah Simmons was fifth (20.67s).

The Boys Under-13 Long Jump was won by Malachi Lam of Point Fortin Jets with a leap of 4.80m ahead of Kegel Chance of Zenith (4.43m) and Cougars’ Ariel Kerr (4.43m).
