Gordon in 34-member TT CAC team

Double Olympic bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon, has been named in a 34-member contingent that will represent Trinidad and Tobago at the 24th Central American and Caribbean Senior Track and Field Championships in Morelia, Mexico from July 5 to 7.

In a release from the National Association of Athletic Administration (NAAA), Gordon has been selected to compete in the men’s 4x400m relay, following his fourth place finish in the men’s 400m at the National Championships, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on June 22.

The 24-year-old won the national 200m title the following day, but has not been named for the half-lap event.

Two-time Olympic medallist and triple CAC champion Emmanuel Callender, along with reigning champions Renny Quow, Cleopatra Borel, Ayana Alexander and Semoy Hackett, have also been included in the team.

Callender copped the 2008 200m gold in Cali, Columbia, the 100m crown in Havana, Cuba one year later and also helped the men’s 4x100m to gold.

He has been listed to compete in the men’s 4x100m.

Quow will be going for his third 400m title after triumphs in Cali and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico last year.

The 2009 World Championships 400m bronze medallist was third in the men’s one lap finals at the National Championships and will be going for the World Championships A standard of 45.28 to run in the individual event at the World Championships carded for Moscow, Russia from August 10 to 18.

Borel is competing in her fifth CAC Champs and will be aiming to defend her 2011 women’s shot put title. The multiple Pan-American and Commonwealth Games medalist was third in 2009, second in 2005 (Nassau, Bahamas) and second in 2003 (St. Georges, Grenada).

Alexander will seek for a second straight women’s triple jump title, improving on her ninth place finish in 2009 while Hackett will be out to keep her 100m crown and also lead the women’s 4x100m to another victory. The 2012 London Olympic 200m finalist will also run in the half-lap event in Mexico.

Olympic relay bronze Jarrin Solomon got the nod to contest the men’s 400m and 4x400m, while NCAA Division 1 champion Wayne Davis has been selected for the men’s 110m hurdles.
