TT athletes begin CAC campaign

THE 24th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Track and Field Championships will get underway today in Morelia, Mexico.

The three-day meet will feature 34 athletes from Trinidad and Tobago who will be seeking, not only to gain medals, but to earn qualifying times for next month’s IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

Olympic medallists Lalonde Gordon (bronze in the men’s 400 metres and 4x400m relay at the 2012 Games in London, England), Jarrin Solomon (bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay at London) and Emmanuel Callender (men’s 4x100m relay silver at the 2008 Beijing Games and bronze at London) are the headline names on the TT team.

Gordon will participate in the men’s 4x400m relay while Callender will compete in the men’s 4x100m relay. Other notable names on the TT team include veteran female shot-putter Cleopatra Borel, quarter-milers Renny Quow and Machel Cedenio, sprinters Jamol James, Rondel Sorillo and Semoy Hackett, long-distance runners Richard Jones and Curtis Cox, hurdler Wayne Davis II and Ayana Alexander (long jump and triple jump).

Women: Semoy Hackett, Reyare Thomas, Michelle Lee-Ahye, Kamaria Durant, Shauana Fermin, Ramona Modeste, Aleena Brooks, Dominique Williams, Aleesha Barber, Sparkle McKnight, Kai Selvon, Geronne Black, Cleopatra Borel, Ayana Alexander.
