Jeminise Parris will be the first Trinidad and Tobago athlete on show at the 2013 IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championships, in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Parris has been drawn in lane five in the third of six women’s 100 metres hurdles preliminary round heats. She will compete at 2.42 this morning (T&T time). The top three finishers in each heat will advance automatically to tomorrow’s semifinal round.

Kenejah Williams will do battle in today’s men’s shot put qualifying competition, which is scheduled to start at 3.05 a.m. To qualify automatically for the 12.05 p.m. final, the T&T athlete must throw 19.40 metres.

Andwuelle Wright would be hoping to jump at least 7.35m when he competes in the men’s long jump qualifying event. First jump is at 3.40 a.m. A 7.35m effort would earn Wright an automatic berth in tomorrow’s final. And at 11.20 a.m., Kayelle Clarke will face the starter in the first of eight women’s 100m preliminary round heats. The first two in each heat will advance automatically to the semis.
