Jeminise Parris clocked a personal best 13.89 seconds to finish sixth in heat one in the semifinal round of the women’s 100 metres hurdles, at the IAAF World Youth Track and Field Championships, in Donetsk, Ukraine, yesterday.

The Trinidad and Tobago athlete was 16th overall, and did not advance to the final.

T&T throwers, Portious Warren and Chelsea James finished 24th and 26th, respectively, in the women’s shot put qualifying competition. The top 12 throwers advanced to the final.

But while neither Warren nor James qualified for the final, each had the satisfaction of producing a PR (personal record). Warren threw the three-kilogramme iron ball 14.90 metres, while James produced a 14.86m effort.

T&T’s Aaron Lewis clocked 14.51 seconds to finish seventh in heat four and 38th overall in the opening round of the men’s 110m hurdles. The top 24 progressed to the semis.

Kayelle Clarke will run in lane four in heat six in the first round of the women’s 200m, at 3.40 this morning (T&T time).

And at 5.06 a.m, Jonathan Farinha opens his bid for men’s 200m precious metal. The T&T sprinter has been drawn in lane three in the seventh of 13 preliminary round heats.
