Jehue, James bag bronze in Europe

Jehue Gordon bagged bronze in the men’s 400 metres hurdles, at the IAAF World Challenge meet, in Madrid, Spain, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete got home in 49.17 seconds.

American hurdlers, Justin Gaymon and Johnny Dutch earned gold and silver, respectively, clocking 48.69 and 48.75.

A pair of South Africans followed Gordon home, Cornel Fredericks finishing fourth in 49.40 and LJ van Zyl copping fifth spot in 49.46.

T&T quartermiler Renny Quow was fifth in the men’s 400m in 46.09 seconds. Bahamian Ramon Miller won in 45.20, from Americans Manteo Mitchell (45.25) and Arman Hall (45.30), and Denmark’s Nick Ekelund-Arenander (45.50).

Jamaal James produced his best 800m run this season and the third fastest of his career, at the KBC Night of Athletics meet, in Heusden, Belgium, yesterday. The T&T half-miler completed his two laps of the track in one minute, 47.11 seconds to finish third.

American Casimir Loxsom won the race in 1:45.98, while second spot went to Kenya’s Gideon Kipngetich (1:46.38).

Lalonde Gordon finished fourth in the men’s 400m. T&T’s double Olympic bronze medallist clocked 46.08 seconds.

The top two spots went to American quartermilers, David Verburg winning in 45.43 and Kind Butler finishing second in 45.50. Belgium’s Jonathan Borlee (45.62) was third.

And Pilar McShine clocked 4:15.78 to secure seventh spot in a women’s 1,500m race.

Ethiopia swept the medals, Gudaf Tsegay leading the way with gold in 4:12.27. Alemitu Hawi (4:13.44) and Haftamnesh Tesfay (4:13.97) earned silver and bronze, respectively.
