Renny Quow won a title at his pet distance for the first time this season when he crossed the line first in the Morton Games men’s 400 metres event, in Dublin, Ireland, yesterday.

The Trinidad and Tobago quarter-miler stopped the clock at 45.77 seconds to strike gold, forcing American Manteo Mitchell (45.82) and Australian Steve Solomon (46.18) to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.

Before yesterday’s victory, Quow crossed the line first in a 400m race only once this season, the 2009 World Championship one-lap bronze medallist winning his National Championship qualifying heat, on June 21, in 46.01 seconds. However, he fell short in his bid for the title, finishing third in the final in 45.65--his fastest time this season.

Earlier this year, Quow won a couple of 200m races in Texas, USA, clocking 20.75 and 20.78.

T&T’s Pilar McShine returned a time of four minutes, 36.79 seconds to finish seventh in the women’s mile at the Morton Games.

Brie Felnagle, of the United States, topped the field in 4:30.44, beating Canada’s Hilary Stellingwerff (4:30.95) into second spot. Romanian Ioana Doaga (4:32.89) was third.

At the Spitzen Leichtathletik meet in Luzern, Switzerland yesterday, T&T’s Mikel Thomas finished fourth in the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.47 seconds.

Jamaican Andrew Riley grabbed gold in 13.32, beating Barbados’ 2009 world champion Ryan Brathwaite (13.36) and reigning world champion Jason Richardson (13.38), of the United States, into second and third, respectively.

Cleopatra Borel finished fifth in the women’s shot put, the T&T field athlete throwing the iron ball 17.54 metres.

New Zealand’s Valerie Adams dominated the competition, the two-time Olympic champion winning with a big 20.76m effort. Christina Schwanitz threw 19.65m for second spot, finishing ahead of her fellow Germans, Nadine Kleinert (18.32m) and Josephine Terlecki (18.19m).

T&T sprinter, Richard “Torpedo” Thompson was disqualified for a lane violation in the men’s 200m.
