Tang-Wing, Jackson among 13 for Senior Olympics

MONICA Tang-Wing and Ruby Jackson are among eleven local masters athletes who will compete at the 2013 US Senior Olympic Games in Cleveland, Ohio set to begin on July 19 and run until August 2.

Tang-Wing will contest the women’s 75 to 79 age group and will do battle in the 50m, 100m, 200m, shot put, long jump and triple jump while Jackson is listed to contest the 50m, javelin, shot put, discus, long jump and triple jump in the women’s 70-74 category.

Both warmed up for the meet by winning four gold medals each at the 28th National Association of Masters Athletes Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of- Spain on July 6. Tang Wing secured the 60m, 100m, 200m and shot put while Jackson took home the 60m, 200m, long jump and shot put. Also making the trip to Ohio for the 50 years and over age group meet are Jackson’s sister Irma Riley, Joyce Thomas, Eulalia Thomas, Susannah Joefield, Verna Edwards, Robert Stevenson, Errol Thomas, Daniel Laurence and Terrance Skinner.

Eulalia and Joyce Thomas and Robert Stevenson were triple winners at the National Championships. Eulali captured women’s 60-64 60m/100,/long jump events awhile Joyce landed the women’s 65-69 shot put, discus and javelin throws. Stevenson took the men’s 75-79 100m, 200m and shot put gold medals. Edwards is the athlete not competing in the track and field events as she will only contest the women’s table tennis (55-59).
