Keshorn heads TT Moscow team

Olympic Men’s javelin gold medallist, Keshorn Walcott, will spearhead a 29-member Trinidad and Tobago contingent at the 14th edition of the IAAF World Outdoor Championships, scheduled to take place in Moscow, Russia, from August 10-18.

This information was revealed by the National Association of Athletic Administrations (NAAA) in a press release yesterday.

Walcott is the lone male field athlete on the team. Walcott secured a place on the national team after attaining the Men’s javelin “A” standard of 83.50m, when he copped gold with a distant 84.39m throw at the TnT Elite Twilight Meet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain on May 3.

Meanwhile, London Olympic double bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon will fly the red, white and black in the Men’s 200m and 400m events.

The lanky Tobagonian will also play an integral role in the national 4x400m relay team. His teammates in the latter event will comprise of Deon Lendore, Jarrin Solomon, Machel Cedenio and Renny Quow. Lendore and Solomon will also vie for honours in the Men’s 400m event.

Olympic medallists, Richard “Torpedo” Thompson and current national 100m champion, Keston Bledman will vie for honours in the 100m event. Thompson, Bledman, Emmanuel Callendar, Rondell Sorrillo, Jamol James and Ayodelle Taffe will all vie for places on the final Men’s 4x100m relay team.

Monaco’s Diamond League 400m hurdles winner, Jehue Gordon will also go for gold in this same event. Gordon presently holds the second fastest time in the world of 48.00 seconds, produced on Friday in Monaco.
