PM congratulates Jehue

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has congratulated Jehue Gordon on his Gold Medal win at the 400 meters hurdles at the 14th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow.

In a media release hours after Gordon's win was announced, Persad-Bissessar said that once again "our athletes continue to hold their own against the best in the world"

"Jehue's gold medal run was not unexpected as he showed great potential in winning the semi-final event on Tuesday. Today's victory showed that despite the small size of our country, our athletes can compete with the best on the world stage," Persad-Bissessar.

"It was exactly a year ago, that Keshorn Walcott won our second Gold medal at the Olympics. Today (yesterday) Jehue won our second Gold medal at the World Championships. He is just 21 years old and has a bright future ahead of him. On behalf of the Government and the people of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend sincere congratulations to Jehue Gordon for his fine representation of Trinidad and Tobago in athletics. We now wait to see what our 4x400m relay team would do in the final," she said.

Gordon won the race in a personal best of 47.69 seconds, a new national record. Ato Boldon was the only other Trinidad and Tobago athlete to win Gold at the World Championships, achieving this feat in 1997 in the 200m final in Athens, Greece, the release stated.
