Bledman, Thomas 3rd in Austria

Keston Bledman bagged bronze in the men’s 100 metres dash at the Gugl Games, in Linz, Austria, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago sprinter got to the line in 10.27 seconds.

American Justin Gatlin clocked 10.08 to top the century field, forcing Jamaica’s Nickel Ashmeade to settle for silver in 10.17.

Another T&T athlete, Mikel Thomas copped third spot in the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.51 seconds. Olympic champion and world record holder Aries Merritt was the class of the field, the American striking gold in 13.26. Dayron Robles finished second in 13.49, the Cuban getting home just ahead of Thomas.

Last Thursday, Thomas finished seventh in the men’s 110m hurdles at the DN Galan IAAF Diamond League meet, in Stockholm, Sweden. He clocked 13.74 seconds.

Thomas was a semifinalist at the World Championships, in Moscow, Russia, earlier this month. American David Oliver captured the world title in Moscow, and was also triumphant in Stockholm. Oliver clocked 13.21 seconds in Stockholm, forcing Russian Sergey Shubenkov to settle for the runner-up spot in 13.35.

Also on show yesterday, at the Gugl Games, was Renny Quow. The T&T quartermiler finished fourth in the men’s 400m, completing his lap of the track in 46.03 seconds.

Great Britain’s Martin Rooney emerged victorious in 45.42, beating American Josh Mance (45.68) and Italian Matteo Galvan (45.93) into second and third, respectively.
