Johnson, Nero top Sonics 5k field

Kelvin Johnson and Tonya Nero came up trumps on Divali morning in the ninth annual George Lancelot Bain 5K organised by the Air Bon Sonics Club.

Johnson clocked 15 minutes, 34 seconds in cool conditions to dominate the race which extended West along the Eastern Main Road, starting at the Arima Agricultural Co-operative Society and ending at the Bon Air Recreation Ground.

His Guyanese compatriot Lionel Dandrade placed second in 16:07.

Curtis Cox (16:13) was third, while Jules La Rode (16:14) came in fourth followed by Shirvan Baboolal (16:16) in fifth.

Meanwhile, Nero of Athletics Central cruised home in 18 minutes, 32 seconds to claim the women’s title.

Janelle Nedd was second in 18:50, while Kerticha John (19:46) placed third and Paulette Lucess (21:21) was fourth.
