International appointment for Andalcio

Trinidad Express :: 19.11.2013

For the first time in the Caribbean region, a track and field technical official has qualified as an International Technical Official (ITO).

John “Slim” Andalcio, who has been one the region’s prominent Area Technical Officials (ATOs) over the past couple of years, recently topped the regional revision programme held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This afforded him the opportunity to be a candidate for the ITO examinations which were held in London, England recently.

This achievement qualifies him to officiate at international track and field events such as the Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth to name a few.

Other candidates from this region were Garth Gayle (Jamaica) and Esther Maynard (Barbados) both of whom were unsuccessful.

In a press release, the National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) congratulated Andalcio on his accomplishment and promotion to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) panel of officials for the 2014-2017 period. This now means that Trinidad and Tobago will have a presence both on and off the track at international level.
