Serrette gets third term as NAAA head

Trinidad Express :: 30.11.2013

Ephraim Serrette was re-elected president of the National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) for a third term yesterday at the association’s AGM at the VIP Lounge of the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday.

Serrette defeated Rawle Raphael for the post. Also returning to their NAAA executive were George Commissiong (first vice president), Dr Ian Hypolite (second vice president) and Jim Clarke (third vice president). Peter Samuel was voted in unopposed as Public Relations Officer.

Serrette received the vote of confidence from the NAAA membership six months after both Sport Minister Anil Roberts and NAAA general council member Clyde Forde called for his resignation in the wake of the doping issue concerning Semoy Hackett, after she and Kelly Ann Baptiste’s withdrew from the IAAF World Championships earlier this year. Hackett had her provisional ban overturned and then was cleared by the Association to compete at “Worlds”, but subsequently returned home after the IAAF re-suspended the athlete pending an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport on the matter.
