Springer sprints to gold at World Masters

Sasha Springer sprinted to gold in the women’s 35-39 200 metres event, at the World Masters Athletics Championships, in Lyon, France, on Monday. Springer clocked 24.76 seconds to lead a one-two finish for Trinidad and Tobago, Ayanna Hutchinson earning silver in 25.02. Last Friday, the places were reversed, Hutchinson taking gold in the 100m dash and Springer seizing silver.

T&T’s Albert St Louis picked up his second medal at the Championships when he bagged bronze on Monday in the men’s 40-44 200m in 22.67 seconds. He had claimed silver in the 100m. And in Monday’s women’s 50-54 shot put, Gwendolyn Smith captured bronze for T&T with a 13.35 metres throw.

To date, T&T have earned eight medals – three gold, three silver and two bronze. Marsha Mark-Baird opened the medal account last Wednesday with gold in the women’s 40-44 heptathlon.
