It was a two-man battle in the Men's Under-23 100 metres event between Point Fortin New Jets (PFNJ) sprinters Nyame Andrews and Jeremy Charles on day one of the National Association of Athletic Administrations of T&T (NAAATT) third preparation meet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain, yesterday.

Both runners clocked 11.30 seconds but Andrews got the edge as he was seven-thousandth of a second faster with 11.292 than Charles with 11.299 as athletes continue their preparation for the upcoming Pan American Under-23 Games set to unfold in Cali, Colombia.

In third place was Ariel Kerr of Cougars in a time of 11.40 while Zion Charles of Fulfilling Athletic Potential (11.55) and PFNJ's Cyrus Charles (11.71) filled the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Though, just this week the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) officials announced that the Pan American U-20 Athletic Games which was to take place in Santiago, Chile was postponed to next year, athletes in the age group still came out to compete as most of the events at the NAAATT meet was in that category.

Brianna Percy was among them in the lower age-group division excelling over on the field. Percy of Tobago Falcons sealed the top spot in both the women's Under-20 shot put and discus events.

She won the shot put with her best throw, measuring 10.62 metres. Her Falcons clubmate Allesha Lindsay placed second with a 10.35m-throw while Gianna Paul of Concorde was third with 8.58m.

In the discus throw, Percy and Lindsay finished one-two again with the former winning with a 35.51m attempt and her clubmate second with 34.18 in the two-athlete event.

Elizabeth Galera of Burnley Athletic Club was the lone competition in both events in the women's U-23 division. She had a best throw of 41.68m in the discus and in the shot put, 11.57m.

Anson Moses was also the lone competitor in the men's decathlon and he tallied 3,403 points from five disciplines on day one. In the 100m he clocked 11.58 to earn 736 points, in the long jump he got 741 points with a 6.69m leap, then in the shot put (10.89m) he picked up 539. In the final two disciplines, the high jump (1.84m) and 400m (51.96) he added 661 and 726 points, respectively.
