T&T's Deon Lendore lead up to the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan has been progressing well with a second place finish in the men's 400 metres at the Stockholm Diamond League meet in Sweden, on Sunday.

Lendore ran a season's best 44.73 seconds to cop a silver medal behind Grenada's Kirani James, the 2012 London Olympic Games champion, who won in 44.63.

The local quartermiler was within striking distance with some 50 metres to go but James, the 2012 London Olympic Games champion, pulled away for the victory. Leimarvin Bonevacia of the Netherlands also gave a good challenge but had to settle for third place in a season-best 44.80.

On June 5, Lendore dominated the one-lap event in the North American Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) New Life Invitational meet at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida, USA. The local athlete sped to gold in a time of 45.48 seconds.

The T&T runner was the fastest in the qualifying heats with a 45.16-timing to win heat three in the 400m at the Bahamas National Championships at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau on June 25. However, he opted out the B Final.

Lendore, a two-time world indoor 400m medallist, was named on the 21-athlete national track and field team for the Olympic Games set to run from July 23 to August 8, to compete in the 400m and he is a member of T&T's 4x400m relay squad that was announced on Saturday by the T&T Olympic Committee.
