Javelin thrower Keshorn Walcott will lead a 30-member T&T team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan which is set to unfold from July 23 to August 8.

The two-time Olympic medallist (gold at the 2012 London Games and bronze at the 2016 Rio Games) heads an experienced 21-member track and field team that includes sprinters Richard Thompson, Kelly-Ann Baptiste as well as Michelle-Lee Ahye, who recently returned from a two-year-suspension for "whereabouts failures".

Thompson, a three-time Olympic medallist (4x100m gold, 100m silver at 2008 Beijing Games and 4x100m silver in London), is a member of the men's 4x100 metres relay squad while Baptiste, who will be featuring in her fourth Games, and Ahye will compete in the women's 100m dash and are also members of the 4x100m women's relay squad.

Jereem Richards, the 2018 Commonwealth 200m champion, and Kyle Greaux will race in the half-lap while quartermilers Deon Lendore and Machel Cedenio will line up in the men's 400m and are members of the 4x400m relay squad.

Rising talent Tyra Gittens has also been included to compete in the women's long jump event.

In-form cyclists Nicholas Paul and Teneil Campbell were also named to the national Olympic team. Paul, the 2019 Pan American men's sprint champion, will race in both the sprint and keirin while Campbell, the reigning "Sportswoman of the Year", will chase glory in the road race.

Also on the team are swimmer Dylan Carter who will dive in the men's 100m freestyle, sailor Andrew Lewis in the men's laser competition and rower Felice Aisha Chow in the women's single sculls.

In a release, on Saturday from the T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC) announcing team said: "The TTOC acknowledges the perseverance, dedication and determination of every athlete who tried their best to qualify for the COVID-19 Pandemic impacted Games- the first Olympic Games in history to be postponed. This will be T&T's 18th Summer Olympic Games.

This is one of the most challenging and complex Olympic Games in living memory. It has and will no doubt continue to be an incredibly challenging test of character and resolve.

Team TTO will be managed by Lovie Santana, the Chef de Mission and Rheeza Grant will serve as the COVID Liaison Officer.
