T&T's Deon Lendore placed third in the men's 400 metres at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Silesia, Poland on Sunday.

The local quartermiler clocked 45.31 seconds to again finish behind American Michael Cherry, who won in a time of 44.94, and in second place was Vernon Norwood (USA) with 45.12.

The others to finish the race respectively were Poland's Kajetan Duszy_skiÊ(45.44), Jamaican Christopher Taylor (45.68), Karol Zalewski also of Poland (45.89), Jochem Dobber of Netherlands (45.97), Ireland's Christopher O'Donnell (46.09) and Jamaica's Karayme Bartley (46.40).

On Friday, Lendore finished fifth in the one-lap event at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme, the penultimate round of the Wanda Diamond League in Brussels, Belgium. He crossed the line in a time of 45.06 seconds.

Cherry won in a new meet record and personal best of 44.03 while reigning Olympic bronze medallist, Grenadian Kirani James placed second in 44.51 and Botswana's Isaac Makwala was third in 44.83.

ÊThis performance followed up, Lendore's third-placed finish in the 400m event at the 57th Palio Citta della Quercia meet in Italy on August 31, his first event following the virus-delayed Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

The T&T athlete at the Stadio Quercia in Rovereto, clocked 45.19, to follow Cherry (44.55) and Makwala (45.02), respectively to the line. Both Cherry and Makwala emerged medallists in the men's 4x400m relay event with Americans taking gold and Botswana, the bronze. T&T which included Lendore reached the final but placed eighth.

Local sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye also competed at the Polish meet in the women's 100m dash. She crossed the line in fourth place with an 11.19- timing.

Winning was the two-time Olympic 100m champion Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 10.81. According to World Athletics, it was a Polish all-comers' record, breaking the 10.93-mark set by Ewa Kasprzyk in 1986.

Fraser-Pryce finished well ahead of second-placed Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji with 11.08 and third-place finisher Great Britain's Daryll Neita (11.15). The others in the race were USA's Kayla White in fifth place with 11.22, sixth was Shashalee Forbes of Jamaica in 11.51 with Portugal's Lorene Bazolo (11.56), Poland's Marika Popowicz-Drapa_a (11.79) and Canadian Michelle Harrison (12.02) in seventh, eighth and ninth place, respectively.

Some two weeks ago, Ahye, in her first meet following her participation at the Olympic Games, placed fourth in the women's 100 metres at the Lantos Mihaly Sportkozpont in Hungary.

The T&T sprinter clocked 11.16 to place behind, Jamaican Natasha Morrison (11.00), Neita (11.07), and American English Gardner (11.09), in the faster of the two timed finals at the World Athletics Continental Tour - Bronze meet held in the city of Budapest.

At the Hungary meet, Ahye also competed in the 4x100m relay with an international team, Budapest World, along with Morisson and they placed first in a time of 43.26. Taliyah Brooks and Nnenya Hailey Cara were the other members of the winning team who beat the Budapest USA Stars (TeJyrica Robinson, Gabriele Cunningham, Gardner, Dezerea Bryant) into second with 44.63 and in third place was Hungary A team (Bettina Keri, Justina Csoti, Buttercup Weaver, Luca Cossack) with 45.29.
