Jereem Richards has won gold for Trinidad and Tobago in the Men's 200 metres event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He defended the title he won four years ago, running at a speed of 19.80 seconds to beat England's Zharnel Hughes who ran 20.12.

Joseph Amoah of Ghana was third in 20.49.

Richards also broke Namibian Frankie Fredricks' 200 metres Commonwealth record of 19.97 set in 1994.

Richards' win is T&T's second gold medal at the games and now means that T&T holds both the Commonwealth Games records in the Men's 100 metres (9.88 set by Ato Boldon in 1998) and 200 metres sprints.

Richards is now the third 200m runner of all time to successfully defend this title behind Jamaican Donald Quarrie and Fredricks.
