Eastman, Cave take joint Regional crown, but Toney stands alone

Roxborough Secondary School (RSS) pair of Natalia Eastman and Rasheeda Cave were crowned joint girls' champions of the just-concluded Tobago Regional Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships, held at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago.

However, little Nkosi Toney stood as the outright winner among the boys, with a total of 30 points for Signal Hill Secondary School (SHSS). After two days of competition, Toney was unbeaten, claiming the win in the boys' 5,000 metres Open Run in a time of 18 minutes and 22.66 seconds. He finished ahead of schoolmate Mykhal Paria (19:42.09) and third Abubakr Gopichan of Scarborough Secondary (20:53.18).

Toney also secured the wins in the boys' 1,500m run, stopping the clock in 4:33.80; the 800m final, where he got the better of Scarborough Secondary School's (SSS) Ben Israel Bannister in two minutes, 03.69 seconds and third-place Hakeem Kerr of SHSS (2:06.70).

Toney was followed into second position overall by Teshun Kerr of Bishops High School Tobago (BHST) with 28 points, while Daniel Briggs of SSS took the third-place prize overall with 25 points.

Kerr clinched the win in the boys' U-17 100m dash by posting a time of 11.41 seconds, crossing the finish line before Danion Williams of SHS with 11.50 and third Keelon Stewart of Roxborough Secondary School (RSS) with 11.65.

Meanwhile, in the girls' dominance, Eastman was a runaway winner in the 800m sprint, getting to the finish line ahead of Angel Davidson of SHSS (2:47.59), in a time of 2:33.68, while Terrysha Harry (SHS) sealed the third-place bronze medal in 3:04.36.

Eastman also claimed victory in the javelin throw by releasing the spear, a distance of 21.80m. Her throw was well ahead of the eventual second-place finisher Lory Clarke (17.59m) of RSS and third Adaya Woods (16.70m) of SHSS.

Meanwhile, Cave was equally impressive for her joint top position. She disposed of the field in the girls' 1,500m run, crossing the line in a time of five minutes, 28.97 seconds for the gold medal. Arlette Ollivere of SHS received the silver medal in 6:06.75 and Nyla Findley of Speyside High (SHS) the bronze medal in 6:29.18.

Later, Cave also dominated the 800m sprint in 2:28.83, coming home ahead of the Signal Hill pair of Ollivere (2:45.12), taking the silver and Shania Smith in 2:50.53.

Combined Team Scores

Scarborough Secondary emerged as the top school with a combined score of 629, followed by Signal Hill in second place with 601 and Roxborough in third place with 586. Filling the respective remaining spots were Bishop's High (582), Speyside (365.50), Mason Hall (259.50), Goodwood Secondary School (GSS) with 251 and Pentecostal Light & Life Foundation (134).
