MONDEVILLE - Barbadian sprinter Tristan Evelyn was the only Caribbean athlete to win an event at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meet in France on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old clocked 7.18 seconds to win the women's 60 metres dash and reset the national indoor record that she has already smashed on two previous occasions this year.

Evelyn had a fierce duel with Morolake Akinosun of the United States, but she managed to dip on the line and finish two hundredths-of-a-second faster than her rival. Bassant Hemida of Israel finished third in a time of 7.34 secs.

The former CARIFTA Games and CAC Games silver medallist had earlier cruised through the heats with a time of 7.27.

Damion Thomas of Jamaica grabbed third men's 60m hurdles with a time of 7.72, finishing behind Michael Dickson of the United States (7.56) and Kevin S‡nchez of Spain (7.70).

Thomas had earlier finished second in the first heat with a time of 7.76.

His compatriot, Kimberly Williamson, however, finished out of the medals in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.82 metres.

Yuliya Levchenko of Ukraine won the event with a clearance of 1.89m.

Jerod Elcock of Trinidad & Tobago failed to reach the final of the men's 60m dash when he finished third in the second qualifying heat in a time of 6.71.
