Nathan Cumberbatch, Sanaa Frederick and Tafari Waldron won gold medals for T&T at the 50th Carifta Games in the Bahamas on Monday.

Cumberbatch reached the top of the podium in the boys' Under-20 800 metres, leading for the entire race, to ease over the line in a time of one minute and 51.34 seconds at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau.

T&T won two medals in the event as Stefan Camejo made a late charge in the final metres of the race to go past Bermuda's Sancho Smith to nab the bronze with a time of 1:52.92. Favian Gollop of Barbados was far-off second with 1:52.33.

Later, Frederick, running in lane four, had to keep focused on her race strategy to win the girls' U-20 200m final. This after two disqualifications. First, Jamaican Sabrina Dockery, in lane three, was shown the red card for a false-start then La'nica Locker, in lane five, suffered the same fate when the race was restarted.

When the starter finally sent the remaining six sprinters off, it was Frederick took the lead out of the blocks and led for the entire race to sprint to victory in 23.60 ahead of British Virgin Islands' Kenyatta Grate (24.11) and Bahamian Amari Pratt (24.17).

Waldron's success came next and he completely dominated the boys' U-20 5,000m final. He was a comfortable winner in 15:33.38 ahead of Bermudan duo Kahzi Sealey with 15:37.56 and Jake Brislane with 15:45.84. T&T's other middle-distance runner Mark Dwarika missed out on a podium finish, placing with 16:15.65.

Earlier, Brandon Leacock also bagged a bronze medal for T&T in the boys' U-17 800m.

The 16-year-old clocked 1:58.17 to place third in the final which was won by Javon Roberts of Guyana with 1:56.64 and Jamaican Delano Todd placed second with 1:57.44.

T&T finished with medals in three of the four 4x400m relay finals. The girls' and boys' U-20 teams won silver medals and the boys' U-17 quartet bagged bronze. The girls' U-17 unit placed fifth in its medal race.

In the morning session at Carifta50, Janae De Gannes and Keneisha Shelbourne picked up two more medals for T&T.

De Gannes copped silver in the Girls Under-20 long jump event. The 17-year-old jumper placed second with an opening 5.93-metre leap. Her attempts in the fourth (5.82m), fifth (5.79m) and sixth (5.81) rounds would have won her the silver.

Taking gold was Jamaica's Jade-Ann Dawkins nabbed gold with 6.14m, and Deijanae Bruce, also of Jamaica, bagged the bronze with 5.78m.

Shelbourne's success at Carifta50 came in the girls' U-20 high jump. The 17-year-old placed third with a clearance of 1.75m, finishing behind Jamaican pair Torian Cavien (1.181m) and Deijanae Bruce (1.78m), respectively.

On Sunday, the T&T girls' U-17 4x100m relay team of Symphony Patrick, Kaori Robley, Kaziah Peters and Alexxe Henry was promoted to the gold medal position after Jamaica was disqualified for running out of lane on the final handover. T&T clocked 46.18.

The boys U-17 4x100m team of Trevaughn Stewart, Kadeem Chinapoo, Immani Matthew and Jaden Clement earned a spot on the podium by taking the bronze medal with 42.51 after the Jamaican team was disqualified for taking the baton "out of zone" on the second change-over.

Reneisha Andrews, Janae De Gannes, Sanaa Frederick and Sole Frederick, the girls' U-20 sprint quartet, earned silver, with a 45.35-timing and the boys' U-20 team of Keone John, Joshua Mascall, Jordan Noel and Michael Jack ended the sprint relay series by bagging bronze in a controversial senior boys' race with 40.83.

Earlier that evening, multi-sports athlete Gianna Paul copped silver in the girls' open heptathlon. The 17-year-old, who won bronze in the event last edition in Jamaica, tallied 4,594 points in the seven-discipline event to place second. T&T's Tenique Vincent placed sixth with 4,029.

In the boys' Octathlon, T&T duo Jeremi Francis was a seventh-place finisher with 4,654 points and Kimani Kent was eighth with 4,457 in the eight-discipline sport.

Kaleb Campbell copped a silver medal in the boys' U-17 high jump with a clearance of 1.95 metres.

On Saturday, T&T collected one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Matthew picked up his first medal, gold in the boys' U-17 long jump, Dorian Charles in the boys' U-20 javelin, and Peyton Winter in the girls' U-17 shot put, each copped silver and the three bronze came from Sanaa Frederick in the girls U-20 100m, Jaidi James in the boys' U-20 high jump and Henry in the girls' U-17 100m.

T&T claimed 22 medals overall- five gold, eight silver, nine bronze - in the three-day meet.
