Dorian Charles and Peyton Winter won T&T's first medals at the 50th Carifta Games in The Bahamas on Saturday morning.

Charles copped silver in the boys' Under-20 javelin event with a throw of 61.58 metres at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, during Saturday's morning session of day one.

The 18-year-old thrower finished behind Bahamian Kaden Cartwright, who sent the spear 64.07m, and ahead of Cameron Thomas of Grenada with 60.12m. Another T&T thrower, Le Bron James placed fourth in the event with his best throw reaching 58.70m.

Winter also won the silver medal in the girls' U-17 shot put event. The 15-year-old tossed the object 13.66m to place second behind Jamaican Dionjah Shaw with 14.48m and ahead of Bahamian Terrell McCoy with 13.31m.

Across the field, Tenique Vincent just missed out on a podium finish as she placed fourth in the girls' U-17 high jump. She switched her focus to the competition in the Girls Open Heptathlon.

Jaden Clement and Makaelan Woods did not advance to the medal race in the men's U-17 400m event.

Clement placed third in semifinal heat one with a time of 50.87 while Woods finished fourth in heat two with 51.86. The medal race is at 6 pm.

Nakiel Denoon will also race for gold in the final of the boys' U-20 400m.

He was the lone local athlete progressing following his third-place finish in heat three with 48.38, the seventh fastest time of the eight finalists.

Other quarter-miler Cyril Sumner completed the one-lap event in fourth spot in heat two with 49.11 but did not advance to the final after finishing 13th overall.

In the 400m U-20 girls' semifinals, neither Sole Frederick nor Rasheeda Cave reached the medal race. Frederick was 12th overall after placing fourth in heat one with a time of 57.33 while Cave was 15th after crossing sixth in heat two with 1:00.37.

All eight T&T sprinters progressed to the semifinal rounds in the 100m dash.

Foreign-based Sanaa Frederick was the quickest qualifier in the U-20 girls' heats, winning heat three with an 11.47 clocking.

Reneisha Andrews also progressed as one of the fastest losers after placing third in heat two with 12.21.

In the boys' version of the race, both Jordan Noel and Revell Webster also reached the next round.

Noel placed fifth in the opening heat with 10.84 to have the 11th fastest time while Webster was an automatic qualifier after placing second with 10.88 in heat four. He had the 15th-fastest qualifying time.

T&T's Alexxe Henry and Symphony Patrick were automatic qualifiers for the next round in the women's U-17 100m after topping their respective heats.

Henry crossed first in heat one with a time of 12.09 seconds, advancing with the fourth fastest time overall.

Patrick followed up with a win in heat two in 12.40 to progress with the 10th fastest time.

In the boys' race in the same age group, duo Kadeem Chinapoo and Trevaughn Stewart also booked their spots in the semifinals. Chinapoo advanced with the seventh fastest of 11.14 after placing third in preliminary heat three.

Stewart progressed from heat two after finishing sixth with 11.31.
